Canada's top wine critics weigh in on what they're truly passionate about when it comes to wine
I can't ever remember an editor assigning me a story with the simple guideline of writing about something wine-related that I was really passionate about. It is surprising given the wine industry is almost certainly defined by the passion of the people involved - from the growers in the vineyards, to the winemakers in the cellars and, yes, even us wine writers.
It is our passion for wine that drives our work and, after a decade or two of visiting wineries and interviewing some of the most obsessive people in the business, it should come as no surprise to anyone that, although we strive for objectivity when judging wine, we really do have our favourites. Be they grapes, regions or wineries, all us would (and did) jump at the opportunity to talk (or write) about them.
This issue, we approached some of Canada's best specialist wine writers and asked them to get on their soapbox and do just that - write about a region,or a grape, or a winery they are truly passionate about. The result is an interesting mix of places, grapes and wineries that will take you across the planet of wine.
