Canadian Wines at London Olympics

Celebrating Canada's best at the Summer Games

Canadian Wines at London Olympics

To celebrate Canadian athletes and promote Canadian excellence, the Government of Canada and High Commission in London will be holding a series of receptions, dinners and official events during the 2012 Olympics in London.

The wines were sent several months ago to the High Commission in London through the Canadian Wine Initiative. This program, created by the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT), assists Canadian embassies abroad to purchase, serve and promote Canadian wine, beer, spirits and cider.

The wines were chosen by Janet Dorozynski, Global Practice Lead, Canadian wine, beer and spirits at DFAIT, WSET educator, wine reviewer for Wine Align and Canadian Wine Awards judge. They were chosen on the basis of the grape varieties and wine styles that Canada does best and which offer value.

The program is especially beneficial for small and medium-sized producers and first time exporters, giving them a chance to learn about exporting, export pricing and testing the waters of international exposure. There are currently over 100 producers of wine, beer, spirits and cider from across Canada who participate and sell their products through the program.

By featuring 100% Canadian products at embassies, during state visits and other official events for world leaders and heads of state, the Canadian Wine Initiative plays a key role in raising awareness of Canadian wines in the global market.
