Fifty Shades of Wine Part Two

A few select wine references in Fifty Shades Darker by E.L. James

Fifty Shades of Wine Part Two

Earlier this month, we wrote about wine references in the bestselling novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. Here is part two of the series, a look at wine references in the second book in the series, Fifty Shades Darker.

At her friend’s art show:

Christian joins me, and hands me a glass of white wine.

“Does it come up to scratch?” My voice sounds more normal.

He looks quizzically at me.

“The wine.”

“No. Rarely does at these kinds of events…”

Try something tastier! Choose from this list of great white wines from our tasting panel for your next art show or just for any time you want a glass or two of a fine white wine.

While shopping for dinner ingredients to cook at her place:

“I’ll get some wine.”

Oh dear. I’m not sure what sort of wine is available in Ernie’s Supermarket. Christian remerges empty-handed, grimacing with a look of disgust.

“There’s a good liquor store next door,” I say quickly.

“I’ll see what they have.”

After spending the day on Christian’s yacht:

Next to SP’s is a small Italian bistro…. Christian and I are seated in a booth, poring over the menu and sipping a delicious light Frascati.

Or maybe not so delicious. How about one of our easy-drinking Top 25 Killer Value wines for a post-yachting day? These wines aren't just delicious, they're also inexpensive.

At a bar, after a nasty incident with one of Christian’s exes:

Ethan glances at me sympathetically, and I feel desolate, completely desolate.

“Can I have something a bit stronger,” I ask Ethan, my voice small.

“Sure. What would you like?”

“A brandy, please.”

May we suggest a fine calvados, to take the edge off dangerous times?

At one of Christian’s bars to celebrate Ana’s promotion:

“Cristal, ma’am?” Christian hands me a glass of chilled champagne as I sit perched on a barstool.

“Why thank you, Sir.” I stress the last word flirtatiously, batting my eyelashes at him deliberately.

When only Cristal will do.

With Christian’s sister, who is asking Ana for boy advice:

“Here,” she says mischievously. “This is one of my dad’s special lemon martinis—much nicer than champagne.”

Christian’s sister isn’t the only fan of lemon martinis; turns out Oprah is a big fan, too.
