Depending on how much time and money you want to put into it, there are many ways to learn about wine.
It can be as easy as reading about great wines (such as the best wines under $25 or top-notch Canadian wines) in Wine Access, or you can take a wine class through the Wine & Spirit Education Trust or International Sommelier Guild for professional-level knowledge.
But if you're somewhere in the middle, looking for in-person education without committing to a professional program, why not try a one-off class intended for busy consumers? Enter Kurtis Kolt's East Van Wine Academy.
Kolt, a regular Wine Access contributor, is bringing back the East Van Wine Academy for a second season on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in Vancouver with his "Around the World in 80 Minutes" introductory wine class. The class will cover the world's major wine regions, grapes and wine styles. Attendees will leave the class with the confidence and knowledge to tackle the liquor store beyond Yellow Tail.
The class begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Waldorf Hotel in Vancouver. Tickets are $40 per person; visit eastvanwineacademy.com to purchase.
