Luis Garcia Severino, head enologist for the Vincente Gandia Winery, was recently named Valencia's best winemaker of 2011. The vote was made unanimously by the Valencian Association of Enologists.
Vincente Gandia Winery is the largest winery in Valencia, Spain's third-largest city, located on the eastern coast, and consistently ranks among the top 15 Spanish wineries. Severino joined the winery in 1980 and was named head enologist ten years later. He was praised by the association for his promotion of wines from the area and for providing a benchmark of great wine.
This award is "special because it comes from my fellow professionals," he said. It means there is an "appreciation of a whole team's efforts for placing Valenican wines in the highest position they can deserve."
The winery started as a family business in 1885 and through four generations it has maintained its commitment to premium quality, reasonable prices and consistency. The winery has expanded their label to included organic offerings. Vincente Gandia wines are available in over 85 international markets, including in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
