"The Grape Down" Wins Big at The Vinos

"The Grape Down," won first place, $1,500 and three cases of B.C. wine, at The Vinos at the Osoyoos Celebrity Wine Festival.

"The Grape Down" by Thomas Pound and Simon Cavan Taylor depicts an interrogation scene, in which one man is trying to get another to reveal the secrets of Black Hills wine. He wants to know what it is about Black Hills that makes its wine so good.

The commercial was dramatic, well-acted, informative and surprisingly humourous. The audience cheered loudly after its screening – it was the clear crowd favourite.

"The Last Supper" by Julian Black Antelope took second place and Fairview Cellars' "The Taste That Will Never Let You Down" won third place. The second place prize was $750 and two cases of B.C. wine and the third place prize was $250 and one case of B.C. wine.

In total, there were 18 submissions to the 2011 Vinos.

It was a festive and fun evening with movie theatre snacks – popcorn and candy – as well as mini pizzas and sliders. A DJ spun tunes until 10:45 p.m. and George Canyon closed off the last 15 minutes of the evening with an intimate, acoustic performance.

It's too bad that the 3 winners were all in the 2010 competition. Was there nothing original at this years event?
