Township 7 presents performances of An Ideal Husband

Wilde at the Winery

On Friday, Township 7 Vineyards & Winery will kick off a summer event that promises to be Wilde-ly entertaining.

The B.C. winery and Bare Bones Theatre Productions are collaborating this summer to offer performances of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband at the winery.

This will be the second summer of Wilde at the Winery, which launched last year with The Importance of Being Earnest.

The project came about when lead actress Jen Viens, who works in Township 7’s tasting room, approached winery owner Mike Raffan about her local theatre company mounting a play at the winery. An empty field between the vineyards and winery building served as the stage, with barrels for a backdrop.

“It was hugely successful,” says Lori Pike-Raffan, who manages public relations for Township 7. “They wound up extending the run. We had people come and they brought picnics and we sold wine.

“Given the success, we decided to do it again this year,” says Pike-Raffan.

Performances of An Ideal Husband will be held on July 29 and 30, Aug. 5 and 6 at Township 7’s Naramata location, as well as Aug. 12 and 13 at the Langley location. Showtime for all performances is 7 p.m. (seating begins at 6 p.m.) and the play will run for about 2.5 hours, with an intermission. Picnics and wines by the glass will be available for sale.

Tickets are $20 each, and are available through the winery by calling 250-770-1743 or 604-532-1766, or emailing wine@township7.com. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Rotary Okanagan International Children’s Festival and Blacklock Fine Arts school.
