At the crossroads of the County — Highway 62 and County Road 1 — sits this modern, gravity-flow winery. There is a small hybrid vineyard on site, but main plantings of chardonnay, cabernet franc and merlot are near the lake at South Bay. French-born and educated winemaker Frédéric Picard is honing an elegant style in chardonnay, pinot gris and merlot-cabernet franc-based reds from County fruit, as well as riesling from Niagara. Huff pioneered the County’s first sparkler — Cuvée Peter Huff Blanc de Blanc Chardonnay, which was converted to a chardonnay-pinot noir blend. (Rick VanSickle)
