The original vineyard here is called Vista Ridge, referring to the stunning views that captivated Paul Gardner and Julie Rennie when they first bought the property in 1996. A former marine engineer and home winemaker, Gardner planted grapes when he noted successful vineyards on neighbouring plateaus. Over the past several years, he excavated a 372-square-metre cellar in the rock at the top of the property. The tasting room opening in 2012 will enable visitors to experience the views, this unique cellar and the extensive portfolio. Gardner and winemaker Adam Pearce, who like making many small lots of wine, are releasing a zinfandel port and a Rhône blend (roussanne, marsanne and viognier).

Stunning on the nose, with mild dill and herbal aromas, sour apple, hints of vanilla, apricot and more. Full and rich on the palate, with perhaps a touch of residual sugar and a lifted, citric finish. Delicious. This wine won a gold medal at the Wine Access 2011 Canadian Wine Awards.
