Beers to Avoid

These bottles missed the mark

By Don McSwiney for Avenue Calgary's June edition.

Don McSwiney’s beer drinking resume includes 25 years of enthusiastic consumption, as a private citizen and member of The Dino Martinis. Turn-ons include long walks on the beach, beer, discovering great new beer and talking or writing about beer. Turn-offs include beer snobs and those unwilling to give different beer styles a chance.

Fosters Breweries, Australia

4.9% Lager

Beers are cold filtered to remove the protein, yeast and many of the things that give a beer character and flavour. Fosters has actually filtered beer out of the beer, and added a bonus weird chemical aftertaste.

Where to drink it: When you run out of Zima.

Pairing: With anything you want — very weak flavour profile.
