Joseph Phelps 2009 Freestone Vineyards Pinot Noir

While the nose is somewhat closed, it eventually opens up with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and white pepper bolstered by lifted spice and leather notes. There is great purity of fruit here — black cherry, raspberry and blueberry flavours are walled in by medium tannins and light acidity. Drink this remarkably complex pinot now, after some decanting, or wait for it to open up over the course of the next five years.
