This was my favourite of the carmenère finalists – a classic in the sense that it has notable savoury, cedary character that is a bit reminiscent of Bordeaux. But is also filled out with perfectly ripened blackcurrant and spice. From estate-grown grapes late-harvested in early May, winemaker Joana Pereira has fashioned a full, dense, yet elegant wine. It has a firm finish and excellent length. There is a pleasant sense of restraint and dryness, without austerity.
