The violet-scented aromas are the first tip that this pinot is serious, and the burst of juicy dark berry flavours, with a proper woodsy/gamey facet makes this category champ stand out. Top producer Whitehaven has made the best of a splendid vintage, where a cool spring lowered yields, then a warm and dry summer ripened fruit to perfection. This shows in the lovely concentration of black cherry fruit and complex gamey dimension, with a silk-textured finish and an uplifting kiss of spicy French oak. Enjoy now, with veal and mushrooms or triple cream cheese.
