Wine Access 2012 International Value Wine Awards Rules for Entry
Wine Access magazine is proud to deliver the only international value wine competition aimed directly at Canadian wine consumers.
The International Value Wine Awards are based in Calgary, Alberta, and focus on any wine – domestic or imported – that retails somewhere in Canada for $25 CDN or less per bottle.
Who Can Enter
Any agent, winery, or authorized party who represents any wine that qualifies for entry under the guidelines listed below.
Cost of Entry
$100 CDN per entry, subject to 5% GST. Payment can be made by credit card (American Express, Mastercard, Visa).
Registrants must ship 3 x 750mL or 6 x 375mL bottles of wine (or equivalent volume) per entry to allow for multiple rounds of tasting. Wineries are welcome to submit 4 bottles to avoid risk of a wine being rejected due to potential flaws with only 3 bottles. All wines submitted are for the exclusive use of judging at the International Value Wine Awards.
Qualifications for Entry
All entries must:
- Come from a commercial winery
- Be produced 100% from grapes grown in the country where the wine is produced and bottled
- Be available for retail sale to the public, and available in at least one province or territory of Canada, during the 2012 calendar year (or scheduled for release by January 31, 2013)
- Retail for less than $25 CDN, including tax, per 750mL bottle in at least one Canadian province or territory. PLEASE NOTE: Shelf prices in Manitoba do not include 7% PST and 5% GST, so all retail prices quoted on entry must be equal to the final cash register price, including taxes
- Have a minimum production of 300 cases (12 bottles/case) of 750mL bottles, or equivalent volume, for commercial availability
- Wines produced in smaller bottles (i.e. ice wines and late harvest wines) are eligible, but care should be taken to ensure that the retail price per 750mL volume is less than $25 CDN. For example, a 375mL bottle would have a maximum retail price of $12.50 CDN.
- Wines sold other than in government or private stores are eligible. Speculative and special listings in B.C., Consignment in Ontario, etc. can be included.
Please note: Wine results will be released in the fall of 2012. All wines should still be available in the market at this time. No tank or barrel samples are permitted.
If wine submitted cannot be confirmed as retailing within Canada for $25 CDN or less, it will be disqualified from the competition. The entry fee will not be refunded.
If your wines qualify for this competition, please read the Shipping Guidelines to confirm that the IVWA is able to receive your wine delivery.
