Altos Las Hormigas 2008 Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda

87 Points

Although not that common to our markets, bonarda is the second-most-planted red variety in Argentina (after malbec, of course). The Las Liebres is brightly coloured on the rim, but almost black in the core. Smoky, briny, and a touch rustic on the nose, with black pepper, a touch of olive and a healthy dose of tar. Thankfully, the fruits rally on the palate with a little more spice and finishing cleanly. If new to bonarda, this is a great starter to try.
