Castaño 2009 La Casona Old Vines Monastrell

87 Points

Spain’s eastern coast is a top source of monastrell, and Bodegas Castaño is unquestionably one of the region’s leaders with an IVWA track record to prove it. Using modern winemaking technology to full effect, Castaño delivers a full-flavoured, evidently ripe, yet still juicy example, stuffed with black fruit and characteristic liquorice notes. Considering this is made from low-yielding, dry-farmed vines up to 60 years old, it’s a remarkable value indeed.

Price List:

  • Alberta: $12
  • British Columbia: $9
  • Ontario: $9
  • New Brunswick: $10
