#25. Castaño 2011 Monastrell Old Vines
87 Points
What is known in France as mourvédre is popular in Spain as monastrell. The grape often produces wines high in tannins, with loads of black fruit and spice flavours, which is the case here. IVWA judges found those traditional black fruit notes joined by juicy raspberry and strawberry flavours and hints of espresso and black pepper. This is juicy, with good acidity. It is simple, yet sound.
