Sterling Vineyards 2008 Napa Valley Merlot

88 Points

Striking a good balance of power and finesse, Sterling’s Napa Valley merlot was slightly closed initially, with a nose of intense black fruits; rich, earthy, savoury aromas; bitter chocolate and cherry fruits. Tannins are still a little hard, with black cherry fruits, intense plum and rich, earthy flavours. For the price, it’s a good deal to buy a half or full case of this wine to enjoy over the next 5 years. Food-friendly acids should complement lamb chops with mushrooms, risotto, or even pizza.
