Merry Edwards 2009 Sauvignon Blanc

91 Points

This sauvignon blanc will never be mistaken for one from Marlborough, New Zealand — the honey, vanilla, light toffee, herbal and citrus notes are decidedly Californian. A medium-bodied, viscous white, the Merry Edwards has clean, fresh sauvignon blanc characteristics: citrus rind, herbal/grassy and gooseberry notes, wrapped in a careful blanket of vanilla, honey and spice. The oak doesn't overwhelm the wine, making for a sophisticated, silky white.
