Dark stewed fruits, rich oak notes and higher alcohol, yet with biting, rigid tannin. Loads of cassis and blackberry, with espresso and cocoa notes. For a Languedoc wine, its pushing the limits but shows that if they want to, they can challenge the New World. Will easily hold for a few more years.
Mouth-coating plum and vanilla jam and just enough oak bite to give it some complexity. New World-style Languedoc, that gives you the riper fruit notes of the New World, but not so much that you lose the traditional garrigue notes that are so common in their wines.
A star of the unoaked chardonnay category, judges loved this wine's crisp apple aromas, with mineral and pear tones. In the mouth, crisp apple notes reappear with bright tropical fruit flavours. Very tasty.
Juicy and plummy aromas are found on the nose of this merlot, with mint and herb notes. Some might say it is leaning towards fruit bomb territory. It is mildly resinous in the mouth, the fruit notes have panache and are slightly tempered by some grippy tannins. A great buy.
This chardonnay has an inviting mix of citrus vitality, spice and mineral complexity for the money. There's impressive aromatic lift, with hints of lemon, apple, floral, wood spice and mineral. It has good focus on the palate, where bright citrus fruit is joined by intriguing mineral and spicy accents.
There's plenty of fruit depth and structure here for the money. The aromas and flavours are built around ripe apple and peach character, with hints of honey and floral. It brings good acidity and evident weight, with persistent fruit on the back end.
Tight, earthy and tannic. This is the meaner, leaner side of the Languedoc, where the grapes burn in the sun, concentrating their flavour and tannin. Aside from the dark fruits and touch of earth, its aromatics are striking, evoking the wild rosemary and other aromatic shrubbery that grows in the fields and the roadsides. Authentic and made for a T-bone.
Mont Tauch is one the great co-ops of Languedoc-Roussillon, and produces deliciously rustic country wines. This one combines bright cherry fruit and the funky gamey flavours that are so perfect for Mediterranean cuisine.
Quality, depth and value align in this fine, spicy and fragrant example from Bertrand. It is very minerally and schistous, with dried mushroom flavours. The tannins are balanced and resolved and the flavours linger on and on. Expect exceptional complexity and class for the money.
A juicy Languedoc wine that is starting to show some interesting notes of maturity. While still pretty and floral, it has an earthy, autumnal feel to it - as if violets were starting to wilt under the weight of fallen leaves. But there is still lots of sweet cherry fruit, vanilla and a creamy, rich mouthfeel. New World drinkers looking for a way back to France should try this.
